Wine 1.0

With slightly less fanfare than Firefox 3.0, Wine finally went “gold” today. Unfortunately- their site is also down.

I stopped using Wine for the most part. The only app I really used it for was iTunes, and Wine doesn’t like the Pulseaudio sound server now used in Ubuntu, making that combination useless. Since I’ve had less problems with Pulseaudio than all of the other sound servers- I’m not going to uninstall it just for Wine/iTunes. I just run iTunes in a Sun xVM (formerly VirtualBox) VM.

When Wine works with Pulseaudio, I might look at using it again. At least it would save me the extra VM boot time every day, and it provides better integration with Gnome.
