Python

For some strange, probably insane, reason- I decided to explore Python today. I’m pretty sure it has moved ahead of most other programming languages at this point as far as popularity goes, especially in Linux, so I thought it would be worth learning.

Holy crap what a strange language. I can see how it could be popular for people new to programming, but as an “old school” programmer (COBOL, BASIC, Pascal, C++, along with DOS and Unix shell scripting, Perl and PHP), Python is just alien. No $ strings, no {}, no “;”, and what seems to be a completely ass-backwards way of indexing strings and arrays.

I do like the way that it forces properly indented code, therfore eliminating the brackets and line terminators (;), so I guess it would make things easier and less prone to errors once I get the hang of it. I’m also very enthusiastic that the name came from my favorite British comedy troup, and has nothing to do with snakes. I’m going to give it a shot.
