HD DVD players become DVD upscalers in format war fallout – Engadget

Well, they have to sell ’em somehow, and they are good upscaling players.

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and noticed that the HD DVDs were relegated to a far corner of the regular DVD section, next to the “fitness” DVDs, while Blu-Ray disks are still featured in a special section with a big sign over it. I did pick up an older Harry Potter release I realized I didn’t have in HD DVD cheaper than it was available in SD.

It sounds like LG plans to make and sell dual-format players for quite awhile, so I don’t feel so bad about buying more HD DVDs, especially as the prices plummet. I’ll just buy a combo player when my Toshiba player eventually dies.
