Network Solutions Responds to Front Running Accusations

I’m posting this as a follow up to my post yesterday about NSI holding domains that are searched for.

I don’t necessarily agree with this practice, and I have never liked NSI, but I do have a question:

Why do a whois search on NSI, and then register a domain through another registrar? Every domain registrar has a web-based version of whois available, and real operating systems have it built-in. I use 1&1 (like a comment poster) and use 1&1’s whois to look for new domains. Why would I want to go to NSI for whois and then back to 1&1 to register? It really doesn’t make any sense.
